What is Cannabis Honey Oil?

For decades, if not centuries, smoking was the best, most convenient method of reaping the benefits that marijuana had to offer. Joint or bong, it didn’t really matter. Smoking and marijuana went hand in hand. Then, around 16 years ago, dabbing exploded onto the scene and with dabbing comes honey oil.

What is Cannabis Honey Oil?

Honey oil is a popular nickname for hash oil or cannabis oil, a potent cannabis concentrate.

The name comes from its amber color and honey-like consistency. You can smoke it, eat it, or most commonly, dab with it.

Despite its name, it doesn’t look all that much like oil. It’s very thick and sticky and will attach itself to anything that touches it so you will have a tougher time removing from surfaces then regular oil.

Some honey oil is very light in color while others are dark. Typically, its appearance is a direct result of how it was extracted and what remains in the final product.

How honey oil is made?

There are several ways to make honey oil. One way is with high-proof alcohol and ground cannabis buds. There are a few different methods, from using a double boiler and stirring, to soaking the buds in alcohol and allowing it to evaporate over time. Be sure to use safe-for-consumption alcohol for this process and doing at home requires
some research on your part so make sure you are prepared if going this route.

Another common method for making honey or hash oil is to use butane. Butane hash oil (BHO) is made by placing cannabis in a long tube or pipe and adding butane. The cannabinoids get extracted into a dense goo which we know as BHO. We don’t recommend trying to make BHO at home, as it can be dangerous or even deadly if done improperly.

How can I use honey oil?

Honey oil is a popular choice for dabbing and vaping. There are other uses, such as consuming it like and edible or adding some to a joint,, but dabs and vapes remain a popular method of choice.

It can also be used to make shatter and wax for easier dabbing.

As mentioned in our previous blog “How to Get Higher from Your Weed”, dabbing is the best way to go if you want that lasting high, that is not only stronger, but also hits quickly.

How much higher?

Honey oil is extremely potent and can get users higher than say, a regular joint would.

For comparison, potent flower may contain up to 30 percent THC, whereas honey oil can be up to 90 percent and sometimes more. At minimum, honey oil is as much as four times stronger than a joint. People who dab and vape honey oil experience an intense high all at once, rather then the high gradually building over time.

So, if you’re someone with a high tolerance, honey oil may be a good choice for you to get the quick recreational buzz you’re looking for.

Bottomline:

If you’re looking for a potent cannabis extract, honey oil is a great choice. Whether you use cannabis for medical or recreational uses, there may be some benefits to using honey oil over regular flower, the biggest being potency.
